How to use the GESE 7 Village and City Life Lesson Plans

Vocabulary

  • Start with the GESE 7 Village and City Life vocabulary activity. You can first play a game to elicit language the students already know. Check out some vocabulary games you could use in this blog post. It might be a good idea to use Vocabulary Tennis or Vocabulary Categories. Then, give students the vocabulary handout and go through it with them. Get them to use the vocabulary in a personalised way by asking questions and getting them to talk to their partner. They should also add any new language they need. You could also ask students to test each other on the language that is included. Finish up the class with another vocabulary game – perhaps charades or twenty questions using the language on the handout.

Speaking,  and Reading

  • For the next class, use the GESE 7 Village and City Life integrated skills lesson. In this lesson, the students have to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of living in cities and villages, read a text about migration away from villages, and prepare a presentation about living in a village – click on the link for a lesson plan describing how to use this resource.

  • For the third class, use the GESE 7 Village and City Life Listening activity. This is based around a talk about the advantages and disadvantages of studying in a big city university. You can use the listening text as a springboard for further discussion about studying in small towns or big cities. Click on the link for more ideas about using this resource.

Speaking and Listening

  • Finally, use the GESE 7 Conversation Question Cards about Village and City Life to revise all the language you have covered and to prepare for the exam. These can be used again and again throughout the language course.
