How to use the GESE 7 Education Lesson Plans

Vocabulary

  • Start with the GESE 7 Education vocabulary activity. You can first play a game to elicit language the students already know. Check out some vocabulary games you could use in this blog post. It might be a good idea to use Vocabulary Tennis or Vocabulary Categories. Then, give students the vocabulary handout and go through it with them. Get them to use the vocabulary in a personalised way by asking questions and getting them to talk to their partner. They should also add any new language they need. You could also ask students to test each other on the language that is included. Finish up the class with another vocabulary game – perhaps charades or twenty questions using the language on the handout.

Speaking and Reading

  • For the next class, use the GESE 7 Education integrated skills lesson. In this lesson, the students have to firstly read about the education system in England and compare it to their own education system. They they have to look at some of the world-wide education problems there are today and discuss why these issues are serious and how they would try to solve them. This will all help consolidate the language of early memories – click on the link for a lesson plan describing how to use this resource.

Listening

  • For the third class, use the GESE 7 Education Listening activity. This talks about the advantages and disadvantages of school uniforms. You can use the listening text as a springboard for further discussion about this topic. Click on the link for more ideas about using this resource.

Speaking and Listening

  • Finally, use the GESE 7 Conversation Question Cards about Education to revise all the language you have covered and to prepare for the exam. These can be used again and again throughout the language course.
