How to use the GESE 4 Holidays Lesson Plans

Vocabulary

  • Start with the GESE 4 Holidays vocabulary mind map. You can first play a game to elicit language the students already know. Check out some vocabulary games you could use in this blog post. Games like vocabulary tennis or vocabulary lists might be a good place to start. Then, give students the vocabulary mind map and go through it with them. Get them to use the vocabulary in a personalised way by asking questions and getting them to talk to their partner. They should also add any new language they need. You could also ask students to test each other on the language that is included. Finish up the class with another vocabulary game – perhaps charades or twenty questions using the language on the mind-map.

Speaking and Writing

  • For the next class, use the GESE 4 Holidays Lesson. In this lesson, there is lots of speaking practice where students can use much of the language you focused on in the vocabulary class. There is also a writing activity to help consolidate the language.

Listening

  • For the third class, use the GESE 4 Holidays Listening activity. This is based around a campsite, so you can revise the vocabulary of facilities you might find here, you can get students to talk about any camping holidays they have been on or are going to go on, or you can get them to imagine they have stayed at this campsite.

Speaking and Listening

  • Finally, use the GESE 4 Conversation Question Cards about Holidays to revise all the language you have covered and to prepare for the exam. These can be used again and again throughout the language course.
