GESE 7 Early Memories Listening

GESE 7 Early Memories Listening Activity

In this download, there is an independent listening task to help Grade 7 students prepare for the GESE 7 Early Memories conversation area and the GESE Grade 7 in general. It provides lots of good vocabulary and language of the grade and is a good way to reinforce the lexis of memories. The listening is about how accurate early memories are, so it’s a good springboard to further discussion.

How to use the GESE 7 Early Memories Listening

There are several ways you can use this resource. You could just use it as a listening exercise to help improve students listening skills. Ask students to listen once to find the gist of the listening. Then they listen and take notes about what they hear and report back the types of memories we remember more accurately that the speaker mentions.

Alternatively, you could get students to work in pairs and make notes while they listen. When they have listened twice, they work together to try and rebuild the text, as close to the original as possible. This is called a dictagloss activity and it helps students with their sentence formation and with reinforcing the language of the grade. You should probably do this with only a small section of the listening.

You can also use the text as a springboard for discussion. After reporting the type of memories we remember well and which we remember less well, ask the students to discuss their own memories and how true they think this is.

We hope you like this listening text. The download below contains the listening in an mp3 file and a pdf with the audio script and the answer key. Click on the red button to download.
